Kobato, a young girl, must pass tests to prove she can live with humans, so that she can earn a bottle that she then must fill with people's suffering. Then only is she allowed to go to her dream place. She is accompanied by a flame-spitting blue talking stuffed dog, who is, to say the least, quite impatient. Ioryogi, who's real name is Iorogi, often gets mad at Kobato because of her naive outlook on the world. This results in a fit, often (always) including flame-spitting. With only a handbag and a stuffed dog to her name, Kobato sets out to heal people's inner wounds. She rents an appartment, gets a job, and heals her first wound, thinking she healed the little boy's wound not because she says his divorced mother is wonderful, but because she played on the swings with him! (See what I mean with naive?) For a moment, everything is perfect. But then.... the nursery school she works at has money problems, and Sakaya and Fujimoto(who also work there, Sakaya owns the school) don't know what to do. Kobato knows it's up to her to save the school. Ever-smiling, she brings a ray of sunshine into the dark future of the school. The children love her. But when Kobato realizes she loves Fujimoto, and even her world gets shaken up, she loses control of the situation...
